IPOB leader did NOT sack his legal team, contrary to widespread reports.

Barrister Alloy Ejimakor, the special counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has clarified that the IPOB leader did NOT sack his legal team, contrary to widespread reports.

According to Ejimakor, senior lawyers such as Barrister Agabi SAN, Onyechi Ikpeazụ SAN, and others were not removed. Instead, the announcement circulating online came at a moment when the legal team realized that the court had already made up its mind to convict Kanu.

He explained that no number of SANs could have changed the outcome, as Kanu was being tried on issues outside the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution. Seeing this, the team met with Kanu, and he opted to defend himself since the conviction appeared inevitable. The full legal team will now continue the battle at the Court of Appeal, focusing on the issues the trial judge, Justice Omotosho, refused to address.
Ejimakor emphasized that Kanu’s case is purely political and requires a political solution, especially since the law under which he was charged has already been repealed. He insists that the conviction has no legal basis in Nigerian law.
He urged the public to understand the true situation and avoid misinterpretations.
