Over the past few days, I have followed conversations around kidnapping, rescue efforts, negotiations, and ransom delivery.
Kidnapping has long been a scourge in our society. Sadly, it has now become a profitable venture for some individuals who present themselves as rescuers, while possibly benefiting from the very insecurity they claim to fight.
Recent events surrounding the ransom paid for a kidnapped couple in Edo State have raised serious questions about transparency in rescue efforts.
Initial claims that N5.4 million was removed from the ransom were denied and dismissed, but were later confirmed. The kidnappers allegedly released only the woman because the agreed amount was incomplete.
This situation raises important concerns. Was this an isolated incident or part of a pattern? If both victims had been released, would the missing money have been discovered? Have families from past cases ever received unspent ransom after rescues?
These are issues that require calm, objective investigation, free from sentiment or bias, because lives and trust are at stake.
Good morning and happy Sunday all
