HOW MANY MORE EMPTY CLASSROOMS BEFORE NIGERIA STOPS BLEEDING?
*ABUJA* — “Bandits can be located if security agencies want to.”
That chilling admission from former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, now hangs over a nation in grief. If the men with guns can be found, why are children still being dragged from their beds? Why do mothers still dig graves with their bare hands?
From Chibok to Kaduna. From Zamfara to Benue. From the Abuja-Kaduna train to the latest kidnapping horror in Oyo State. The map of Nigeria is turning into a roll call of pain. Schools are no longer sanctuaries. They are hunting grounds. Highways are no longer links between families. They are death traps. Farms are no longer food baskets. They are graveyards.
SBM Intelligence counts 735 mass abductions between 2019 and 2024. Over 15,000 Nigerians stolen. NBS data says N2.2 trillion paid in ransom in just one year — blood money squeezed from a people already on their knees. And UNESCO warns: 18.3 million children out of school, many driven out by fear.
Yet Buratai’s words cut deeper than the statistics: _We have the capacity. We have the tools. We have the training._
*So Nigerians ask: What, then, are we waiting for?*
Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution is clear: “The security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.” On that duty, the verdict on the streets is brutal. We are failing.
The videos are on our phones now. Kidnappers filming tortured captives, mocking a nation that cannot protect its own. Mass burials have become routine. Sleeping with one eye open has become culture. And fear — cold, daily fear — is becoming the only inheritance we leave our children.
*2027 is not just another election.* It is a national referendum on survival. A choice between continuing to bleed or bandaging the wound.
Nigeria does not need more speeches. It needs leadership that hunts bandits with the same speed bandits hunt our children. Leadership that puts insecurity as agenda item one, every single day. Leadership that treats every inch of soil as worth defending.
The power to stop the bleeding is not in the barracks alone. It is in your hand. Your PVC is your voice. Your vote is your shield.
*2027: Choose life. Choose security. Choose Nigeria.*
The NDC said a full security blueprint will be made public this week.
