Regarded as the world’s oldest known church, Dura-Europos Church was originally a private residence before being converted into a place of worship. Although in ruins today, the site was extensively excavated in the 1920s and 1930s, and its frescoes are preserved at Yale University.

Abducted Niger council secretary escapes from captors

 The Chairman of Munya Local Government Area in Niger State, Aminu Najumei, has disclosed that the council secretary, Daina Usman, who was abducted on Thursday night, managed to escape from his captors on Friday.



Speaking on Friday in response to reports of the abduction, Najumei explained that Usman fled while the bandits were searching for a hiding place.

Usman was kidnapped alongside his wife, two children, and another individual during a late-night attack in Sarkin Pawa, Niger State. The assailants reportedly stormed his residence near the riverbank around 10 p.m.

Confirming Usman’s escape, Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasi’u Abiodun, told DAILY POST that the official regained his freedom at about 3:00 a.m. on Friday.

He added, “Efforts to rescue the remaining victims are ongoing.”

The faces of two suspected young criminals who allegedly killed Hon. Azuka Justice

 A combined security team has found the decomposing body of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, at the 2nd Niger Bridge. Azuka was reportedly kidnapped while returning home on Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha.

Here are the faces of two suspected young criminals who allegedly killed Hon. Azuka Justice and withdrew ₦100 million from his account. Reports indicate that they later escaped from police custody in Anambra State.

The Hon. Justice Azuka was a Nigerian politician who was a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency before his death. 

He was kidnapped on 24th December 24 along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town Onitsha, while he was on his way home for Christmas.

Many crushed to death, others injured as trailer loses control in Kano

A trailer said to be heading for the southern part of the country crashed when it  lost control , A number of people have been killed, while others sustained different degrees of injuries when trailer lost control on the popular Muhammadu Buhari Bridge in Kano.



According to a source, at Hotoro NNPC, under the bridge from Mariri to Unguwa Uku, a truck (Tarela) overturned, carrying both people and goods. The source stated that more than twenty people were involved; some lost their lives, while others sustained serious injuries.

He stated that the trailer lost control while coming from Maiduguri Road, trying to navigate the interchange through the underpass tunnel, which gives access to Ring Road and connects to Zaria Highway.

He added that the trailer slipped inside the underpass, stressing that some people were rescued while many lost their lives on the spot.

The source explained that similar incidents involving trailers have occurred at the same spot.

“The vehicles involved are usually trailers conveying animals, food items, and individuals from the northern region to the southern part of the country,” he explained.

According to business operators around the vicinity, the incident usually occurs when the driver underestimates the vulnerability of vehicles under the bridge and tries to go under speed.

When contacted, the Kano State Fire Service Command spokesperson, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, said they were working to get details.

No Responsible Govt Will Negotiate With Killers – Zamfara Gov Reaffirms Commitment Against Terrorism

 Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment in fighting against terrorists disturbing the peace of the state.

Governor Dauda emphasized that only an irresponsible government will engage in negotiation with criminal elements like bandits and Boko Haram.

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday by the Governor’s Spokesman, Sulaiman Idris.

He said: “The banditry issue has been a significant concern for people across Zamfara State, Northwest, and the entire country for decades.

“This is one reason Governor Dauda Lawal stated in his campaign manifesto before the 2023 general election that security would be his top priority, pledging to implement measures to address the situation.

“Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration has prioritized the security of Zamfara State, and it has taken a clear stance from the beginning that negotiating with bandits is nothing but a ‘snipe hunt.

“In various media interviews, the governor has restated that the Zamfara State Government will not negotiate with the bandits terrorizing the state.

“It should be made clear and on record that Governor Dauda Lawal’s position remains undisputed: no responsible government will negotiate with killers from a position of weakness. Negotiations should only occur from a position of strength.”

Two Arrested As Hoodlums Kill Corps Member In Plateau Stadium Attack

 A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, Safwan Fade, has been beaten to death by hoodlums in Pankshin Local Government Area, Plateau State.

Fade, serving at the Federal University of Education in Pankshin, was reportedly attacked and beaten to death by hoodlums who stormed a local stadium in the area.

Emmanuel Adesina, the state Commissioner of Police, confirmed the occurrence at the Command’s headquarters in Jos, on Tuesday.

Adesina stated that two male suspects, Samuel Dang Kat and Zatshinen Wubwerwe, have been arrested in connection with the attack that resulted in the corps member’s death.

He further revealed that 24 suspects were arrested for various offences.

The Commissioner stated that the suspects were apprehended following a thorough investigation and assured that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

The Commissioner said, “On 23/01/25 at about 07:00am, we received a report from one Umbule Boreng Reuben of Pankshin LGA, who reported that on 22/01/25 at about 06:00pm, one Safwan Adamu Fade, an NYSC corps member serving at FCE Pankshin was reportedly beaten and severely injured by unknown hoodlums at the Pankshin township stadium.

“Upon receipt of the report, I immediately directed the DPO of Pankshin division to lead a team of policemen to the scene where the victim was quickly rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

“The victim was treated and declared stable by the Medical Doctor on duty. The victim was later transferred to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) as a result of some complications. The victim eventually died in the process.

“In the course of our investigation, two suspects, one Samuel Dang Kat and Zatshinen Wubwerwe, both male, have been identified and arrested in connection with the case. Efforts are being intensified with a view to apprehend the fleeing suspects and charge them to Court.”

The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the law-abiding citizens of the state for their cooperation in aiding law enforcement efforts against crime.

“Within the period under review, the Plateau State Police Command had recorded some operational successes. Our aggressive onslaught against men of the underworld has led to the massive arrest of criminals and the recovery of arms and ammunition.

“The Command is poised to serve you better. The support of the media and the publicity given to Police activities has no doubt been tremendous. The Public are better informed and educated on the good intentions of the police towards them and the need to form a strong alliance against the men of the underworld.

“Once again I appreciate the good people of the state, the members of the 4th estate of the realm and the gallant, professional and indefatigable police officers of the Command that have brought about these successes,” the Commissioner added.
