A fresh travel alert has placed Nigeria under a strong warning label, advising people to avoid non-essential trips to the country, even to the capital city, Abuja. The notice cites an unpredictable security climate marked by terrorism, armed attacks, kidnapping, crime and violent clashes, making movement risky for visitors and residents alike.
The warning is even stricter for several regions, including the northwest, northcentral, northeast and parts of the Niger Delta, where travelers are urged to avoid all travel due to heightened threats and frequent unrest.
Border zones near Cameroon, Niger and northern Benin are also flagged as danger areas. Only Calabar and Lagos are treated differently, with authorities advising a high degree of caution rather than outright avoidance, due to persistent criminal activity and safety concerns.
