On November 28, 2025, bandits carried out a night raid in the Gidan-Bijimi area of Abuja, abducting seven individuals, including six young girls and a 16-year-old boy.
This attack occurred just a week after a police officer was killed in nearby Guto, highlighting the ongoing violence in the Federal Capital Territory.
The assault took place around 9:47 pm. Armed with AK-47 rifles, the attackers invaded two homes, firing shots into the air. Residents were thrown into panic as the bandits escaped with their captives. Gidan-Bijimi, located near the borders of Kaduna State, has been a hotspot for criminal activity, particularly along routes used by gangs.
Suleiman Shuaibu, a local resident, confirmed the abduction. He received a call about the attack shortly after it began and learned that his cousin was among the victims. Local vigilantes tried to confront the bandits but retreated due to their firepower. Many residents fled into nearby bushes, while others stayed indoors until morning.
As of Thursday, there had been no communication from the kidnappers, and police had not yet confirmed the incident. This abduction raised alarms regarding the worsening security situation in the Bwari Area Council.
In response, the Federal Capital Territory Administration announced new security measures after a meeting led by the Minister, Nyesom Wike. Police Commissioner Miller Dantawaye outlined the activation of Operation Sweep, a multi-agency effort aimed at addressing these threats. The operation has been divided into four sectors, covering key areas to enhance security.
Despite these efforts, the recent abduction reveals the ongoing vulnerability of rural communities and the increasing audacity of armed groups challenging government security measures.
