A fresh attack has been reported along the Isanlu Makutu–Idofin corridor in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, triggering heightened fear among residents and travellers.
According to local eyewitnesses, the armed group struck suddenly on Saturday afternoon, forcing people in the area to flee for safety. The exact number of abducted victims remains unconfirmed as at the time of filing this report.
Community sources disclosed that tension has escalated across neighbouring towns, with many residents staying indoors. Several motorists have begun diverting to alternative routes to avoid the troubled highway.
Security agencies were said to have been alerted immediately, with operatives reportedly mobilising to the scene to assess the situation and initiate rescue efforts.
This latest incident comes just days after coordinated attacks along major highways in Kogi State, during which 21 passengers, including women and a nine-day-old infant, were rescued by a joint security team.
In that earlier operation, two security personnel — a soldier and a vigilante — were k!lled during an exchange of gunfire with the attackers. The coordinated assault involved no fewer than 100 armed bandits, who targeted multiple vehicles travelling in different directions.
Among the previously attacked vehicles were:
A Toyota Sienna (Oshogbo → Kaduna)
Toyota Hiace buses from Owo to Abuja and another heading to Ekiti
A Toyota Carina (Lokoja → Kabba)
A Dangote truck transporting 900 bags of cement
A J5 bus carrying pepper from Kano to Lagos
Passengers were forced to escape into surrounding bushes as the attackers attempted mass abductions.
A joint security response team comprising the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Quick Response Unit, NSCDC, local vigilantes, and hunters successfully rescued the 21 passengers. However, the identities of the fallen security personnel were yet to be released.
The situation on the Isanlu Makutu–Idofin axis remains fluid, with security operations ongoing.
