He Was Looking For Me To Kill Me,I Promised To Smoke Him Out Months Before He Was Caught—Dokubo

Niger Delta activist and former militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has dismissed allegations that he played a role in the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a video posted on his official Facebook page, Dokubo insisted that there was no betrayal involved, as he and Kanu were open adversaries at the time.

The controversy resurfaced following renewed public debate after Kanu’s recent prison sentencing.

Critics online accused Dokubo of contributing to the IPOB leader’s capture, but the activist categorically rejected those claims, stating that their hostility toward each other was well known and openly expressed.

According to Dokubo, his disagreements with Kanu had escalated to the point where both men regarded each other as mortal enemies.

He revealed that long before Kanu was apprehended, he had publicly vowed to track down the separatist leader due to their deep ideological and personal clashes.

“At the time Nnamdi Kanu was arrested, he was my enemy,” Dokubo said in the video. “I was looking for him to kill him, and he was also looking for me to kill me. Months before he was caught, I said openly that I would smoke him out wherever he was. So how did I betray him? People don’t even understand the meaning of betrayal.”

Dokubo stressed that nothing about his position was done in secret.

He insisted that his threats were made publicly and repeatedly, leaving no room for interpretation that he had pretended to be an ally while working against Kanu.

His remarks add another layer to the long-standing tensions between the two figures, who have often clashed over ideology, leadership, and strategy in matters relating to the Niger Delta and the agitation for Biafra.

While IPOB supporters continue to debate Kanu’s arrest and its circumstances, Dokubo maintains that he had no involvement beyond his vocal opposition.
