Tension in Ibadan Worried after truck full of Northern youths, bikes, and cows arrives

A sense of quiet alarm spread through parts of Ibadan on Tuesday when residents noticed a large truck carrying dozens of young men, motorcycles, and cattle rolling into the city from the north.

The truck was spotted in the Dugbe area, close to the IBEDC office, moving slowly through traffic. Many who saw it described a crowded scene: young men believed to be herders sitting among tied cattle and several motorcycles stacked at the back.

One resident quickly filmed the moment and shared it online, tagging the Oyo State Government with a simple plea: “Please investigate. Security is everyone’s concern.” The video has since been viewed thousands of times, with people sharing their worries and asking questions about who the travelers are and why they arrived in such large numbers.

In neighborhoods nearby, small groups gathered outside homes and shops, talking in low voices about what they had seen. Some expressed fear, remembering past incidents in other parts of the country where similar movements raised concerns. Others urged calm, reminding friends that people have the right to travel freely within Nigeria for work or trade.

Nigeria has long grappled with tensions around herder migration, especially in the south and middle belt, where clashes over grazing land have sometimes turned violent. Large, sudden arrivals like this often spark anxiety, even when there is no immediate threat.

So far, neither the Oyo State Government nor the police have issued any official statement about the incident or confirmed the purpose of the journey.

For many in Ibadan, the moment has been a sharp reminder of how quickly unease can spread in today’s Nigeria. Most residents simply want reassurance a clear explanation that puts their minds at rest and keeps the city safe.
