WHAT A SERIOUS COUNTRY WOULD DO
THE MATAWALLE SCANDAL IS NOT A DEBATE - IT IS A TEST OF WHETHER NIGERIA IS A COUNTRY OR A COMEDY SHOW
Nigeria is standing at a crossroads.
A Minister of State for Defence has been accused - not by enemies, not by political opponents, not by anonymous sources - but by his own Senior Special Adviser, with sworn statements, bank records, and detailed descriptions, of:
Funding terrorists
Buying vehicles for terrorists
Buying houses for terrorists
Buying livestock for terrorists
Paying terrorists with state money
Bailing terrorists from federal custody
Empowering some of the deadliest killers in West Africa
Yet…
He is still a Minister of Defence.
This is not “politics.”
This is not “opposition propaganda.”
This is not “2027 strategy.”
This is national stupidity on a scale that should be impossible in a functioning state.
WHAT WOULD A SERIOUS COUNTRY DO?
1. Immediate Resignation or Removal - SAME DAY
In any country with functional brain cells, nobody with even 10% of these allegations remains in office for 24 hours.
Example: United Kingdom
Ministers have resigned for:
Claiming the wrong tax status
Sending emails on personal devices
Failing to declare a meeting
Attending a lockdown party
Losing a USB drive
None of these involved arming terrorists.
A UK Defence Minister accused of funding terror groups would be:
Suspended immediately
Investigated by MI5
Arrested if evidence held
Finished politically by sunset
But Nigeria?
We debate it on TV.
2. National Security Emergency Investigation
A serious country would treat this revelation as an attack on the state.
Example: United States
When a US general or official is accused of even speaking to a hostile group:
FBI steps in
Pentagon Intelligence steps in
Immediate suspension
Phones and accounts seized
Possible treason charges
America does not joke with national security.
But in Nigeria?
Someone accused of feeding terrorists is sitting inside the Ministry responsible for fighting them.
This is how a country commits suicide.
3. Immediate Freezing of Accounts and Phone Forensics
Example: India
India has arrested:
Ministers
Top bureaucrats
Chief ministers
Senior police officers
…simply for corruption, NOT for funding terrorists.
In terrorism-linked cases, India freezes accounts within hours and interrogates suspects even if they are sitting ministers.
Meanwhile, Nigeria allows:
Accused ministers
Accused aides
Accused collaborators
…to keep their phones, accounts, passports, and offices intact. Then we ask why terrorists grow stronger.
4. Terrorism-Financing Charges - Non-negotiable
Example: Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia beheaded senior princes, clerics, billionaires, and officers for financing extremism even indirectly.
Saudi Arabia does not care about:
Friendship
Political loyalty
Region
Tribe
Sentiment
Terror financing = Dead end.
Nigeria?
Terror financing = Promotion to Minister of Defence.
5. Parliamentary Hearing - Public, Televised, Ruthless
Example: South Korea
South Korea can drag:
A President
A Defence Minister
A Prime Minister
A CEO
…before Parliament for far lesser allegations.
South Korea televised the questioning of a president accused of influence peddling.
Imagine what they would do to a minister accused of equipping terrorists.
Nigeria?
We don’t even call him for questioning.
WHAT SHOULD NIGERIA DO IMMEDIATELY?
Let’s stop pretending Nigeria is serious.
If we WANT to act like a real country, then we must do the following:
1. Matawalle MUST step down - NOW, not tomorrow.
You cannot fight terrorism when one of the people in charge is accused of feeding the terrorists.
It is that simple.
No emotions.
No tribe.
No religion.
No political relationship.
2. EFCC, DSS, NPF-IFIC, and NFIU MUST open a joint investigation.
This is national security - not politics.
3. Freeze accounts, seize devices, restrict movement - immediately.
Anyone else in this world accused of:
buying houses for terrorists
buying vehicles for terrorists
funding terrorists
bailing terrorists
distributing state money to terrorists
…would NEVER be left free for one night.
4. Summon Kamarawa to testify under oath.
He has offered his evidence.
Bring him in.
Let him present his bank statements, receipts, logs, and details in a public or closed-door hearing.
5. Summon the cleric, Murtala Asada.
He spoke out a year ago.
He must be heard.
6. Launch a truth audit of Zamfara’s finances under Matawalle.
If even 20% of these confessions are true,
then billions of naira meant to fight insecurity were spent funding insecurity.
This is treason - not mismanagement.
NO NATION CAN WIN A WAR IF TERRORISTS HAVE FRIENDS IN GOVERNMENT.
Nigeria will NEVER defeat terrorism
if the people killing Nigerians have people feeding them in government.
This is not about tribe.
Not about religion.
Not about politics.
It is about survival.
President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu MUST act.
Not for politics.
Not for 2027.
Not for image.
For the survival of Nigeria.
Because if Matawalle remains in that ministry,
then no matter what Christopher Musa does…
no matter how hard the new Defence Minister works…
no matter how good the service chiefs are…
Sabotage will sit directly behind them in the Federal Executive Council.
And a saboteur in the room is more dangerous than 10,000 terrorists in the bush.
