Bandits Ambush CPG Convoy — Two Kļíīed, One Seriously Wounded in Zamfara’s Dansadau Axis
Armed bandits attacked members of the local vigilante group Civilian Protection Group (CPG) on Saturday evening along the Dantudu–Dansadau road in Dansadau, Zamfara State.
The ambush occurred around 5:00 p.m. as the three CPG operatives were returning from patrol duty.
Two CPG members were kļıīed instantly from multiple gunshots; the third — identified as Kamal Yaron Malam — was critically injured and rushed to Dansadau General Hospital for emergency treatment.
The bodies of the slain were retrieved and taken to the hospital for autopsy, before being released to their families for burial according to Islamic rites.
Residents of Dansadau and neighbouring villages have expressed alarm and outrage. Witnesses say the killing of CPG operatives — who have long served to defend their communities — has further emboldened bandit networks to strike without fear.
Locals described the scene of chaos: heavy gunfire, motorcycles speeding off into the bush, and widespread panic among villagers who now fear for their safety.
No group has officially claimed responsibility, but unnamed sources blamed a notorious bandit gang known locally as “Lakurwa” whose fighters have reportedly intensified attacks on security operatives and civilians along the Dansadau axis in recent weeks.
This brutal ambush underscores the deepening security crisis in Zamfara State, where vigilante groups like CPG — often seen as the last line of defense for many rural communities — continue to bear the brunt of violent reprisals.
With patrols and community‑defence efforts escalating, many fear more lives may be lost unless coordinated, robust action is taken to neutralise bandit enclaves.
