Banðits demand N150M to free kiðnapped Kwara Monarch

On 29 November 2025, the Ojibara of Bayagan, Oba Kamilu Salami, went to his farm as he usually does. Around 9:30 a.m., armed bandits stormed the area, fired shots in the air, overpowered the traditional ruler, and took him away on motorcycles into the thick forest. They left behind only his bike and the fear of a whole village.

Less than 24 hours later, the kidnappers called the palace. Their demand: N150 million.

The community is in shock. N150 million is money most families here will never see in a lifetime. Markets are empty, children are kept indoors, and everyone is waiting for any good news.
Police say rescue operations are ongoing, but so far there is no sign of the monarch or the other victims.
To prove they had him, they put the monarch on the phone. His voice was weak but clear. He told his people he had been riding for more than five hours deep into the bush, and that several villagers from nearby areas were taken with him.
For the people of Bayagan, their king is more than a ruler; he is their father and their pride. Right now, all they can do is pray that he comes home safe, and soon.
