The ongoing protest in Iran has taken another dimension.

The ongoing protest in Iran has taken another dimension. An Iranian woman publicly burned images of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei with cigarette light. Under Iranian law, damaging or burning the Supreme Leader’s image is considered a serious offence. By combining this act with open defiance of mandatory hijab regulations, the protesters are sending a powerful message against the rigid social standards.

Ayatollah Khamenei has accused the protesters of acting under the influence of the United States. He claimed that demonstrators were damaging public property and warned that Iran would not tolerate what he described as “mercenaries for foreigners.”

Considering the statement of the Iranian supreme leader, without the fear of possible reaction from the US, do you think the protesters would have gone Scot free after causing this level of embarrassment to the Iranian state? I am thinking the protest would have been brutally suppressed if not for the warning issued by the United States of America. Please something should be done urgently to ensure that normalcy returns to the Republic of Iran.
