A controversial statement credited to the President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Dr. Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, has sparked outrage across Nigeria.
According to the statement, Dr. Bodejo urged the government to stop referring to armed Fulani groups in the forests as “bandits,” arguing instead that they should be described as “freedom fighters” who are allegedly defending themselves at the forest with arms.
He further called on the government to label vigilante groups (Yan Banga) as bandits, claiming that they are responsible for escalating violence and unrest.
Dr. Bodejo also advised the government to abandon military action against armed groups, insisting that warfare cannot bring lasting solutions. He emphasized that dialogue and reconciliation (sulhu), rather than force, should be the government’s primary approach to resolving insecurity.
The remarks have been widely described as dangerous and inflammatory, given the scale of killings, kidnappings, and displacement linked to banditry across many parts of the country.
