America's intelligence network has a way of doing things. Like Al Pacino's famous quote in the movie — Devil's Advocate: 'You will never see me coming.' We never thought Sokoto would become the receiver of American's first military strike in Nigeria.
Americans pulled the same narrative when they collaborated with the Israelis to eliminate key Iranian military commanders during the short-lived Iranian and Israeli war. The world, especially the Iranian military, never envisaged their topmost generals were the first target. Usually in wars, the low ranked, foot soldiers fight the enemies. It only becomes a threat to the commanders of the footsoldiers when the enemies defeat their soldiers. 
In most cases, the commanders, sensing an impending danger, flee to a place of safety before the winning side hit them. But during the short-lived Iranian and Israeli war, Iran's commanders and generals were the first casualties of the war! That smart move by the US and Israeli soldiers was a devastating blow to Iran which they have not fully recovered from.
This is a similar version of what has played out in Nigeria. Sokoto has now been fingered as the veiled terror capital of Nigeria, and a devastating military strike has been unleashed there. If truly Sokoto secretly housed the deadliest of criminals and the main kitchen where terrorism is being cooked, then the American government deserves an award for an awesome display of military intelligence!
