“You will never know peace if anything happens to Alex, mark my words” – Rev Ezekiel Dachomo tells Gumi
Tensions in Plateau State have reached a boiling point after Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, a well-known pastor based in Jos, issued a public and forceful warning to Sheikh Gumi over what he claims was a direct threat against US missionary Alex Barbir. The warning comes amid a surge in violent attacks in Jos that have left dozens dead and many more injured.
In a heated statement, Rev. Dachomo said, “Gumi, let me tell you, Alex Barbir is far better than you. He is on the ground, with the people, caring for the wounded, and helping the victims of violence. You, on the other hand, are used to bargaining money from the federal government to compensate terrorists, while Alex risks his life every day tending to the very people your negotiations are endangering.”
The pastor did not hold back in condemning the actions of Sheikh Gumi, questioning the moral and religious implications: “What sort of religion is this? What sort of faith teaches you to support killers and terrorize innocent people? Now you are putting his picture everywhere so your terrorist followers can track and harm him?”
Rev. Dachomo’s warning carried a chilling resolve: “Mark my words, if anything happens to Alex, I assure you in the name of the Lord, you will never know peace. I am ready to face you and defend the innocent.”
Alex Barbir, a US missionary with a long history of humanitarian work in Nigeria, has been deeply involved in providing medical care and support to victims of the Jos killings. His dedication has earned him widespread respect among local communities, religious leaders, and international observers.
This confrontation highlights a growing tension between local religious authorities, government negotiation strategies with armed groups, and the courage of individuals like Alex who put themselves on the frontlines to help victims of violence. Rev. Dachomo’s statement has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many praising the pastor for taking a stand and condemning what they see as complicity in negotiating with terrorists.
The situation in Jos remains tense, with security forces on high alert to prevent further attacks. Local residents have expressed fear but also gratitude toward individuals like Alex Barbir, whose work continues to bring hope amidst a climate of fear and violence.
Observers now watch closely to see how Sheikh Gumi responds, while the safety of Alex Barbir and other aid workers remains a top concern for both local communities and international humanitarian organizations.
