This explains why some people see Nigeria as a human tragedy

 I read somewhere in "Scotland's child poverty policy" which makes reducing child poverty a national mission with legal binding targets. This involves direct financial support like weekly child's benefits payment and reduced housing/child care costs. It is criminal for any child to suffer poverty in Scotland.

It is government's responsibility to ensure that children are adequately catered for. As such, they removed every barrier that might lead to such social anomaly. If there's a cut in gas or electricity supply in your home, and you call your supplier with the information that I have a child or children at home, even if it is 1:00am an engineer will be certainly sent to come and fix it for you, without any cost. They don't joke with children's welfare.

At birth, a sinking fund account is opened and funded by government for the child. Children don't pay for school fees up to their first degree, children below the age of 22 don't pay for public transportation, they have young scot card that passes them.

There are countless food banks and clothe banks with government funding where you can also get these items free for children.

Every child below age 5, has a compulsory health visitor, who visits every week to monitor the child's health conditions and growth. Off course, above age 5, every family has a general practitioner (GP) you don't pay for health treatments or medications.

Children are considered as the future of the country. As such, they are jealously guided. If you're an abusive parents, government through socials can take away your child/ children and place them under foster care with a monthly payment of £2000 by government. Such parents can go to jail for such abuse.

If a child doesn't go to the university, maybe he/she goes to the college, what we call Polytechnic, to acquire any form of skill, they will be placed on a wage that little below the minimum wage, to enable them remain focused. In the end, they will come out advancing some of the wonders we are seeing today. Some will be absorbed as factory engineers. Thereby, adding values and creating a better society.

This is the beginning of the building of a decent and just society.

They do all these, not because they have so much money or resources. Nigeria has better potential natural resources. But cluelessness of rulers and official corruption makes it impossible in Nigeria.

Juxtapose this with what we have in Nigeria, you will understand why Nigeria is a disaster, and why we are experiencing what we are experiencing today as insecurity and criminality.

Just consider what will be the future of these children, and what the society will be like.
